MDI Tomorrow
Community Design and Land Use Working Group

Every day individuals, businesses, and local and state government make decisions that affect how we use our limited land base and design our communities. Through the MDI Tomorrow process, residents are looking at how these decisions affect the island’s economy, public health and safety, traffic patterns, housing choices, water quality and wildlife habitat. Land use and community design choices also affect the livability of Mount Desert Island and our quality of life.

The Community Design and Land Use working group is committed to understanding what the broad term "community" means to MDI residents. This shared understanding we hope will lead to a common vision that will inform and guide future decisions. The vision that is developing to date is to preserve and enhance the distinctive features of each town and village, honor community traditions, preserve MDI’s unique environment and sense of place while providing for growth and change. It is a tall vision, and we invite your participation.
