MDI Tomorrow
Local Foods Connection Working Groups

MDI Tomorrow Local Food Connections groups are working to build healthy, sustainable local food systems by improving access to and raising public awareness of the availability and advantages of fresh local foods.

Preferred Future Vision for Local Food Systems:

   - All residents of the greater MDI region have sufficient access to healthy foods throughout the year.  They are able to easily obtain the locally grown farm products and seafood that they enjoy consuming on a regular basis.  It is feasible to make a living on the island by farming and fishing.  Local producers have ample opportunity to sell their products within a 60-mile radius, which helps strengthen the local economy.  Schools, hospitals, and other organizations serve a wide assortment of local foods in their cafeterias.  Grocery stores and restaurants offer a broad selection of local products, as demanded by their customers.  Children grow up knowing where their food comes from and have opportunities to participate in its production.  Our working waterfronts and agricultural lands are valued and maintained as part of a thriving and sustainable local food system.
