SHAPING OUR FUTURE

Mount Desert Island Tomorrow (MDI Tomorrow) is a citizen's forum on the future of the MDI area and its communities. It is not a formal organization, nor an advocacy group. Rather, it is a community process to identify what citizens want for the future and to suggest plans and collaborative work to bring about that "preferred future."

A similar effort was undertaken in 1987-1991, which incubated a number of successful projects including the Island Explorer bus service, Island Connections, the MDI Community Health Plan, Kid's Corner, Island Voices, a high school internship program, and Acadia Homes for Students. In 2003, we hope to launch another series of successful projects that address island-wide issues. Presently, there are six working groups, open to anyone, that meet regularly to address land use and community character, community housing, transportation, youth, community health, and economic prosperity concerns.
